THE WANT STORE

From designboom:

"Students from the University of Washington's Visual Communication Design Program have developed 'Want', an interactive retail experience that is about educating college students on how to become savvier with their money.
The 'merchandise' inside the imaginary store is constructed from laser-cut cardboard, and includes everything from coffee to electronics, to apparel, each printed with a different tip on how to save money on that item.  As in a regular store, visitors are invited to flip through clothing racks and browse the shelves at their leisure"

CJAM APPLIES FOR NEW SIGNAL AND PROTECTED STATUS

From CJam's site:

"CJAM is currently applying for an amendment to our broadcasting undertaking to assume a new signal at 99.1 FM.  While CJAM has been broadcasting at about 1000 watts for over 10 years, the station was never granted "Protected Status" from the CRTC, thanks to pressures from the FCC who were concerned with CJAM's level of interference with adjacent American stations.  Without "protected status", CJAM faces the risk of losing its signal to other applicants.  In fact, CJAM faced that very risk recently when CBC decided to apply for 91.5 in the fall of 2008.  The CBC ultimately withdrew its application, but CJAM still faces possible removal from the FM band thanks to a pending application for our signal.

CJAM has identified a new signal- 99.1 FM- that could afford the station protected status and has moved forward with applications for this new signal to Industry Canada and the CRTC.  The application has received "Technical Acceptability" from Industry Canada and is now before the CRTC"

PARIS YARDSALE

AN INTERVIEW WITH MARK HUNTER

THE COBRASNAKE PHENOMENON

This is Mark Hunter, aka "the Cobrasnake" and DJ Steve Aoki, aka "Dim Mak"

Mark has made himself famous with his nightlife photography, and his site is an addiction for pbr-guzzling scenesters in head-to-toe american apparel and/or the raddest 80s gear they can find. The fashion is original. The people are beautiful. The drinks are abundant. The party never stops.

Whether or not you hate the titles: "hipster", "scenester", whatever..... it's all for fucking fun!

Never heard of him?  Not necessarily that surprising.  He's an internet phenomenon gaining more and more popularity everyday, but is more or less unknown to mainstream media (other than the odd mention in NYLON magazine).  This is a cult-like following that has stayed that way for the better part of five years.

Pictured below left is Cory Kennedy, who Hunter made famous when he 'discovered' her at a party when she was 16.  She quickly became his muse and the two eventually began dating; soon enough, Kennedy was the wastecase/scenester/nightlife princess of LA.

Hunter also throws his daytime yardsale parties all over.... LA, Paris, London.... and we have contacted him for the second year in a row to get his endorsement for us to throw our very own charity yardsale party!

What's for sale?  Saturday night's gear..... vintage wayfarers, tshirts, suspenders, fedoras, buffalo plaid, headbands, american apparel, as well as his very own tshirt designs, which sell internationally on his site.

What can we say?  People are straight-up addicted.  Models frequent his parties in the rawest mix of runway and thrift store finds, kids binge drink, show their tits and tats, and strike the hottest pose they can get out considering their respective levels of fucked-up-edness.....

Love it or hate it, social scene or charity event, come find out what everyone is talking about on the 29th of May......

Love and yardsale gold,
Robyn, Sara and Murad
